Sharon Kim

CLINICAL PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Treating ages 6+

LCPC, EMDR

Hello and welcome to Embrace Counseling Center!

I’m Sharon, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and EMDR Certified Therapist in IL. My training and experience has provided me the privilege of walking alongside children, adolescents, young adults, and adults in many different stages and seasons of life— from therapeutic day schools and inpatient addiction programs to supporting individuals through cross-cultural challenges, spiritual/religious trauma, grief, and major life transitions.

I find that many people come to therapy feeling stuck in survival mode— living with anxiety, consistently feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, experiences with emotional numbness, or feeling “stuck” in hopelessness. What I value most in this work is the privilege of hearing and honoring each person’s unique story. I practice from a holistic, trauma-informed approach that respects the brain-body-spirit connection, integrating evidence-based and mindfulness-based practices such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Brainspotting (BSP), and Expressive modalities like Art and Play Therapy. I find that these approaches can open doors when words fall short, helping clients deepen their connection to themselves and uncover new layers of emotional awareness and self-understanding.

As your therapist, my commitment is to provide a safe and compassionate space where your story can be explored with care and respect. Together, we move at a pace that feels safe and supportive— gently restoring regulation and releasing stress responses that have been left unresolved. I believe therapy is not about rewriting who you are, but about reconnecting, strengthening, and embracing the resilience already within you. Together, we can explore the chapters surrounding your experiences, and shape a path that nurtures healing, growth, and meaningful change in your life story.

Faith-Integrated Counseling (Available Upon Request)

For clients who wish to incorporate their faith into the therapeutic process, I offer a gentle and respectful integration of spiritually informed perspectives. This work is always client-led and grounded in clinical ethics. Whether you are exploring your spiritual identity, healing from religious wounds, or seeking deeper alignment between your values and daily life, therapy can thoughtfully honor the connection between brain, body, and spirit.
