Good Faith Estimate

Your Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, healthcare providers are required to provide certain clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance with an estimate of the expected cost of their care. If this applies to you, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate showing the expected charges for services you reasonably expect to receive from Embrace Counseling Center.

What Is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate is exactly what it sounds like: an estimate of what your care is expected to cost based on the information available when the estimate is prepared. If you are uninsured or choose not to use insurance to pay for therapy, you can ask Embrace Counseling Center for a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling services. The estimate may include the expected cost of therapy based on factors such as your session fee and anticipated frequency of appointments. Because therapy is individualized, the length and frequency of treatment can change over time. A Good Faith Estimate is not a contract and does not require you to receive a particular number of sessions.

When Will I Receive My Estimate?

If you schedule services far enough in advance, federal law generally requires healthcare providers to provide a Good Faith Estimate within specified timeframes. You may also request a Good Faith Estimate before scheduling an appointment. If you believe you should have received an estimate and have not, please contact Embrace Counseling Center.

What If My Bill Is Higher Than My Estimate?

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you may be able to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process. Make sure to save a copy or photo of your Good Faith Estimate. For current information about your rights, the dispute process, and the No Surprises Act, visit the official Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services No Surprises resources.
